Distro FAQs

What is The RoosterCow Store?

The RoosterCow Store is a distro that carries zines, comics, graphic novels, and books. Music too.

What kinds of books, zines, and comics are you looking for?

For books and zines, high-quality writing on interesting topics accompanied by good design is ideal. That said, sometimes a good story trumps everything.

Comics? Same deal. Comics should have good art, of course, but good writing too with a preference for comics that tell a story.

How do I submit my comic/book/zine?

Please email a PDF copy to info@roostercow.com. If it looks like a good fit, I may ask for a sample hard copy.

When will you let me know if my stuff has been accepted?

Sometimes I can respond within a few days, sometimes it can be a few weeks, but you will get a response. Of course, I can’t accept every submission. There are storage considerations and sometimes I just don’t think a particular item will sell in the RoosterCow Store. In that event, please don’t be discouraged and keep sending out stuff.

If my stuff is accepted, what will RoosterCow do for me?

RoosterCow will sell selected titles on roosterCow.com and promote them on its social media channels and through online and print advertising, as well as RoosterCow media properties TBD.

How much should I charge?

You are encouraged to keep prices affordable. I understand that doing a small run of a great-looking book is expensive, but if it exceeds a potential customer’s price pain point, then your work will likely go unseen and unsold. Profit margins are very low in this industry, unfortunately.

What do you pay?

RoosterCow Media will pay 60% of the retail price per copy/item sold. Due to additional expenses associated with travel, titles sold at comic/zine and book fests, will pay 50% of retail price.

When and how do you pay?

RoosterCow Media will make payments for sold copies twice a year on January 1 and July 1. Payment can be made via Venmo, PayPal, or by check.

Will RoosterCow Press publish my stuff?

Maybe. I am not sure what financial constraints RoosterCow will be under at any future point, but if you have something you think would fit with our current publications, send a PDF copy to info@roostercow.com and make a good pitch for it.

By the way, who are you?

I am Chris Auman, the sole proprietor of this operation. I have been publishing zines and comics since 1993. As a one-person operation, I do my best to promote the titles I carry and to treat everyone honestly and fairly. I hope we can work together for a long time. If you ever have any concerns about your treatment by RoosterCow Media (me), please let me know at info@roostercow.com
